Hi. I have a friend who is older and insists on having an android. I am an apple user. He does not know how to do hardly anything on his phone and is always asking me to teach him. I have no clue myself and am googling everything for him. He wants to use apps like vorail and such but that app is not available for his phone yet. What other apps can he use that are simple, does not have a lot going on and allows him to learn how to use his phone or interact with more people.

I have been trying to teach him how to use youtube lately and he can not understand that subscribing to someone on youtube will not charge his credit card...
There is so much going on here and he thinks I am the only one willing to take the time to teach him. By the way, I speak with him over the phone and do not see him in person so hands on help is out of the question for me.

He also is sighted mostly and does not use speach on his phone. He says that a lot of games are not fun to play because he can't see them to play them..

I tell him things and he waits for family to come by days later to help him look more in to it or whatever...

I don't think age is the main problem there. Have you tried just finding him
some step by step tutorials? I know they're out there for iphones. I assume
they are for android too.

Would he be better off with just a basic cell phone forget the aps and such? He really may not be able to see how to use a more complicated phone. It sounds like he has a real sight issue here and he may be a senior citizen over 55 who can't learn the more complicated phone.

He is mid 60's and likes the note because the screen is so big. I am getting him totorials to watch.

The totorials are outdated as of lollipop. What note does your friend have, I need this info to know what OS its running. Next, check out inclusive android or link: http://inclusiveandroid.com/, it is the web sight with updated information and apps for android. If your friend has sight check out claria zoom plus play store link: http://www.claria-vision.com/en/low-vision, I helped a IRS canadate at wold services for the blind when I worked there. After showing the student set app they love it, check it description out: UNRIVALLED READING COMFORT ON YOUR SMARTPHONE

ClariaZoom is an Android app designed to fit the needs of partially sighted users, allowing them to intuitively customize their reading experience: magnify
the menus and texts, change the colours and contrasts, and easily activate or deactivate speech.

THE NEW CLARIA ZOOM APP

ClariaZoom can now be downloaded on the Google play store as an Android app. Download it now and take a look at our brand new website!

I meant young lady.
I absolutely dislike the perception that age is the problem when things are complicated.
Hell, these flip phones were once "complicated."
Okay, okay.
Laughing.
Must need more coffee.

I said that because that is what he tells me.
He will ask me to death how to do something then say he will have someone show him later.

OMG!

He is not with the times of things and I have to explain everything to him. It is some times like he jumped in from the 80's. He does not understand so much of the more recent technology.

He is also always having me buy him things like blank VCR tapes and blank cassette tapes.

He has ways to listen to his music on other devices but wants the tapes for some reason or another so I help him get them online.

I am trying to get him to sign up with amazon and to shop online so he can do things more himself rather than get upset that his family can't take him to the store as often as he needs. He is just having a hard time transitioning in to modern technology wich is why I said an older person.

He is stuck in the past and is struggling to catch up with the future.

Prehaps he just enjoys Nicky's company.
Smile.
Might say, for a person that has difficult learning.
Older still has nothing to do wid it!
Smile.
